Editor's Note:

Architecture for Art is a work in progress.

There is a vast number of museums, galleries, artists, architects, curators, etc., who are not currently included on this site. We have lists of art spaces, artists, and architects whom we will continue to contact throughout the launch of AforA. We are more than happy to receive information from you and we welcome your participation. AforA is open to new ideas about the development of our site. If you have any thoughts, do not hesitate to contact us. Please write to Liane Nouri at architectureforart@gmail.com

About

We are here to create a forum dedicated to exploring the dialectical interplay between art and the space it inhabits. Put another way, our website focuses on the relationship between art and the spaces art lives in. Architecture for Art.

AforA was designed to give artists, architects, curators, planners, educators, collectors, and critics a place to be heard on this important subject. AforA additionally aspires to offer a resource of the latest events, exhibits, galleries, and museums worldwide.

Background

Within the past decade, literally hundreds of innovative new museums, galleries, and other art-spaces have been erected throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America. These structures have transformed the way in which artists perceive space, architects perceive art, and an audience perceives both the art and the architectural structure supporting it. This in turn has led to new artistic expressions.

Sights on our Site

The relationship between art and architecture is widely dependent on curatorial decision-making. Great efforts have been made by curators to deal with these new public spaces along with private spaces and the art they work with everyday. AforA aims to address the concerns of curators in our Articles section.

Our Gallery is the place where a selected work of art will be highlighted, along with background on the artist. AforA’s philosophy is to invert the standard experience of walking into one architectural space, a museum, and having an abundance of art available. Here one can “roam” through many different museums, focusing on the architecture, and be greeted with one special display of artwork.

Worldwide galleries and museums can be found in our Directory.
